National Center of Innovation for Biomaterials in Orthopaedic Research

CIBOR’s Bioengineering Core is devoted to applied biomechanical and biomedical research and development relating to human musculoskeletal performance in support of orthopaedics and other medical specialties. This Core provides the highest standards in biomechanical testing to:

  • Generate material strength allowable
  • Evaluate the effect of physiological exposure on a material’s mechanical properties in vivo and in vitro
  • Assess external and indwelling medical devices based on ISO and ASTM standards in accordance with FDA requirements for the development of composite medical devices
  • Allow non-standard tests that evaluate new concepts and designs proposed by orthopaedic surgeons and bioengineers

The Bioengineering Core also supports testing of metal alloys and composite materials for research that is funded by the orthopaedic instruments industry and by government-related studies. With access to state-of-the-art material testing instruments, CIBOR’s Bioengineering lab meets the research and testing needs of orthopaedic companies, composite materials manufacturers, government agencies, and more.
